Lake, canal full of gunge
Reported via mobile in the Canal/lake issue category by YVONNE BILGIN at 21:48, Tuesday 4 June 2024
Sent to Thamesmead less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6064017.
This area so bad. Full of algae, weeds, you can't even see where grass ends, canal starts, to the right, thus was cleared, but through butt's wood its horrendous. This canal carries on down hutchins road, where, thank you, you clean part of it, in the water, thought not all ? This canal can't flow correctly as the green gunge stops it, where from these fotos, it then goes down hutchins road, se288se, you need clear it there too, just as it goes under the bridge/overpass. Butt's wood need attention in more ways then one. But this really needs clearing. Is the boat now working again ??

Thank you for your enquiry. With the installation of the new wetland system our team has been closely monitoring the area. We’ve not noticed any smells or a decrease in the local wildlife, but we will continue to keep a close eye on things. The wetland system was put in to help improve the water quality by filtering out the impurities from the upper catchment which ends up in the lake. The water around the wetlands can sometime look different to the main body of water but this is as it should be. Water around the wetlands won’t be moving as fast as in other parts of the lake. We’ve put up some temporary fencing which we’ll take down once the plants are established. This will help provide more food and shelter for the water birds. If you notice anything else of concern please let us know.
